Jeff Giles+ Corrina Keeling+ Shawna Caspi: Thurs, Sept. 26.

Jeff Giles+ Corrina Keeling+ Shawna Caspi: Thursday, September 26. Doors: 7:30pm. Show: 8:00. Tickets: $20 / $15 students/ seniors/ un(der)waged. An evening of great songwriting and great musicianship, delivered in-the-round by three old friends.
Corrina Keeling
is a sophisticated songwriter and a technically-accomplished rhythmic powerhouse; her music is medicine for complex times, inviting her audience to celebrate, grieve, heal, and imagine what’s possible. From David Suzuki’s ‘Blue Dot’ Tour, to festivals in Australia, the USA, and the UK, she has shared the stage with artists aligned with her message, including Feist, Tonye, The Barenaked Ladies, and Neil Young.
Shawna Caspi may perform solo, but there’s a whole band under her fingertips. Accompanying herself with a remarkably lyrical fingerpicking guitar style, she believes in the power of one person, one instrument, and songs filled with poetry. Currently touring the US and Canada in support of her 4th album, Forest Fire, her performances capture audiences with their grace and intimacy, seeking to be unafraid, to embolden quiet voices, and to tell the truth above all else.
Jeff Giles began his love affair at the age of 8 with the best of 60’s Soul and 50’s Rock & Roll. A Hamilton local, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter, Jeff is now one of the country’s most in-demand tribute music performers, sharing his love for the broad history of popular music across Canada, the USA, and Europe. He is happiest, however, in an intimate environment, singing his own songs: an eclectic mix of folk, soul, and roots music. Of his work, the Hamilton Spectator’s Gary Smith has said: “His writing is graceful and generous, filled with metaphors and memories. How much of it is true doesn’t matter. What matters is he makes us believe every word”.

The Curtain Falls on The Pearl: But not ’til ?

The Curtain Falls on The Pearl: But not ’til ???? Really, it will be until we don’t have to pay the mortgage. We’ve just had a sale fall through; we’re here for a while yet….

It is with very mixed emotions that I inform everyone that Gary and I have decided to end the run of The Pearl Company.

We have worked hard to keep The Pearl moving forward, but we are now caring for three (amazing) children and our new family requires greater stability than this crazy business can grant us. It’s time to retire and tend to “nos jardins”. Gary, of course, will continue teaching and performing and who can know what else.

We have a zillion fabulous memories: from Valdy and Jesse Winchester to local CD Releases and those cool community events such as the Koren Family Christmas Foodraiser and Christopher Clause’s Beatles’ nights!  Those won’t go away.

We’ve had wonderful audiences and supporters galore but it is time. A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers who have made it possible for 2 people to look like more!  We are expecting to finish our run June 30.

I want our remaining time here to be exciting, creative and memorable. I want it to be emblematic of everything the Pearl has been.

We will keep you up to date on any new developments. It’s an uncertain time, but we are planning to do everything we can to send the Pearl out in style.

Thanks for the memories,

Barbara

My Father’s House: May 29 – June 2/ June 4 – 9.

My Father’s House: May 29 – June 2/ June 4 – 9.  Doors: 7:30pm. Evening Shows: 8:00pm. Sun. Matinees: 2:00pm. Tickets: $20 / $15 students/ seniors/ un(der)waged. This new production of Brian Morton’s stage adaptation of My Father’s House, stars Lisa Langlois, and features Claire Shingleton-Smith, Keegan Chambers, and Joshua Perry Fleming. The play is produced and directed, by Gary Santucci.
Somewhere before the age of seven, Sylvia Fraser created a “twin” who shared her body while living a life apart from hers, with separate memories and experiences. For forty years, the existence of that twin and of the secret life she led while growing up in her father’s house was unknown to the author. How Fraser broke through the amnesia to discover and embrace the tortured self she left behind is the story of this astonishing stage play.
The memoir My Father’s House (1987) startled both critics and the public with its honesty, clarity of style and emotional force.  The book not only helped “heal” its author, but ignited public debate on a hidden social problem. More than thirty years, after publication, the book is more relevant than ever, in this the era of #metoo, as a moving example of how one survives trauma.
Lisa Langlois has chosen, to return to her stage career in playing the role of Sylvia. She is also developing My Father’s House for the screen, along with its prequel, Pandora.
Warning:  MY FATHER’S HOUSE contains mature content, adult themes, and simulated sexual assault. Viewer discretion is advised.
