LTtheMonk fell in love with hip-hop when he was 8 years old. His love for the culture and genre grew and at age 16, he began to take the verses he had spent years finessing, turning them into songs. The Curtain Falls on The Pearl: But not ’til May 31/19!

The Curtain Falls on The Pearl: But not ’til May 31/19!

It is with very mixed emotions that I inform everyone that Gary and I have decided to end the run of The Pearl Company.

We have worked hard to keep The Pearl moving forward, but we are now caring for three (amazing) children and our new family requires greater stability than this crazy business can grant us. It’s time to retire and tend to “nos jardins”. Gary, of course, will continue teaching and performing and who can know what else.

We have a zillion fabulous memories: from Valdy and Jesse Winchester to local CD Releases and those cool community events such as the Koren Family Christmas Foodraiser and Christopher Clause’s Beetles’ nights!  Those won’t go away.

We’ve had wonderful audiences and supporters galore but it is time. A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers who have made it possible for 2 people to look like more!  We are expecting to finish our run May 31.

Here’s a call out to local musicians to pull together some of those fabulous communal concerts.  If you’ve never played the acoustics at The Pearl, now is the time! I’ve already lined up a few guaranteed-to-be-memorable concerts.

If you are a Member, we want you to help us deliver what you’d like to see! If you would still like to become a member, we will of course pro-rate the amount to fit the time and you’d join our Last Season Membership Advisory Group!

I want our remaining time here to be exciting, creative and memorable. I want it to be emblematic of everything the Pearl has been.

We will keep you up to date on any new developments. It’s an uncertain time, but we are planning to do everything we can to send the Pearl out in style.

Thanks for the memories,

Barbara

It is is partly, a recreation of an actual musical comedy vaudeville act that toured the vaudeville circuits, in 1920 and 1921.  During its week long run in Hamilton, in late November of 1921, stage hand Jack Grubb, shot chorus girl Cecile Bartley, before turning the gun on himself.
The production features Susan Robinson, Chris Cracknell, Michelle LaHaise, Claire Shingleton-Smith, Erynn Garland, and Larry Smith, in its cast.   The music and songs in the play are all “tin pan alley” compositions circa 1918-1920. It is produced and directed by Brian Morton (winner of the 2013 City of Hamilton Arts Award for Theatre and Artistic Director of non-profit charitable foundation, Theatre Erebus Inc.).
